The objective of this course is to disseminate biology / biology education and learning from academic paper review. Biology Education Seminar course is in addition to the hope that students can make an academic paper review of the journals studied, it is also expected that students can recognize and understand various problems in Biology learning in the real world. As a new course by using the journal as a learning resource (Journal based learning resource), then the evaluation of the implementation of this biology education seminar course needs to be done.

The purpose of this study is to determine: (1) how is the ability of students in making academic paper review with Journal based learning resources on Biology Education Seminar Course? (2) how is the student’s understanding of the problematic of Biology learning in real world with Journal based learning resource on Biology Education Seminar? This research was conducted in April – May 2011. This study used a qualitative approach.

Research subjects or informants are the source of qualitative research data. Key informants (primary data source) in this research are the Head of Biology Education Study Program, the lecturers of the seminar on Biology Education and the students who have taken the course of Biology Education Seminar. Student informants were set by using snow ball sampling technique or snowball technique. While the entire team of lecturers pengampu set as informant research. Primary data of this study were obtained from interviews and questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from documents relevant to this study. Data validity is done by triangulation of data. Analysis of this research data using qualitative analysis techniques, namely by unitization and categorization.

From the results of data analysis can be concluded that: (1) The ability of students in making academic paper review with Journal based learning resource in general, according to the views of the team of lecturers pengampu is good after going through several stages and the increasing intensity of guidance and training.
